Not really audiobooks, but so beautiful it's a perfect add-on when reading The Lord of the Rings.
The Tolkien Ensemble (founded in 1995) is a Danish ensemble which aims to create "the world's first complete musical interpretation of the poems and songs from The Lord of the Rings". They published four CDs from 1997 to 2005, in which all the poems and songs of The Lord of the Rings are set to music. The project was approved by both the Tolkien family and HarperCollins Publishers. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark gave permission to use her illustrations in the CD layout.

Again something completely different this can best be described as an audio musical. Music with the emphasis on story. Try it, you won't be disappointed if you like either. With the wonderful voice of Christopher Lee. I also added this album to my Melodrama - Stories playlist.

Although it has multiple voices, this doesn't feel like a radio drama, it's more like a reading with multiple voices, there's even some sound effects but not many, still it's good. Great story off course but somewhere the performance doesn't do it for me.

Joe is chased, almost killed but he escapes through a wild and uncultivated England to the hideout of a small group of dissidents under siege. They initially regard him as a spy but he eventually wins their confidence and spends two life changing years with them. He and one of the girls fall passionately in love. Joe is transformed but their ecstatic life together is doomed. The dictator attacks and she is killked. Joe returns to the town and there, after a bloody battle, defeats the tyrant. In the process he is attacked and finds himself back at home, the same age as when he fell but transformed into a different person. A second volume is in preparation.

Most saw Vincent Price as quaint, eccentric, or just plain odd, so when he produced a recording of “readings” entitled Witchcraft and Magic: An Adventure in Demonology, no one really took it too seriously. But we now know that Price was serious, having an affinity for not only his persona as Hollywood’s leading man of the macabre, but for the actual subject matter itself. Whether or not it was disregarded as just another performance of the role that gave him notoriety, the album included a track called “How to Communicate with the Spirits,” which amounted to nothing more than an advocating of necromancy.

There are series which go as far back as 1935. Unfortunately they also sound like that on Spotify. Maybe these detective stories need these old cracklings sounds of radio transmitters. Many characters had their own show on the radio with weekly episodes.

Sorry for those who were looking for E.L. James' stories, the title was just to get you here, although with good cause. I found a nice collection of erotic and SM stories you might like if you clicked this title out of interest for the subject matter. The playlist contains a collection of stories from Silver Moon books, which probably not by accident also abbreviates to SM. Featured stories are:

With all this Sci-Fi and Horror stuff posted, I stumbled upon these erotic audio books, maybe there are some Sci-Fi girls out there already reading this blog who like the occasional mush.
A do-over
The way I'm adding books to this list is to slow. I don't have the time to find a introduction to every separate story. So I'm trying a different method. In stead of starting from the stories I'll start from the albums on Spotify. Which is perhaps even a better method. As albums are added to the feed, I'll remove previously placed links that would contain doubles. I hope this way I can provide better and faster information.
